Repentance in its simplest form is a change of mind. However much confusion exists over this topic. Man is not capable of turning from his sin on his own. Repentance is a work of God that occurs from true, honest belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Man's duty is to believe in this dispensation, but this often is abused by mere lip service; pure deception. A truly converted soul will believe with their whole heart resulting in God given repentance from darkness to light; turn from idols to God; hatred for sin that they once cherished. This is not something you do prior to salvation but rather 2 sides of the same coin. Belief on one side and repentance on the other.
We live in a world with many professing "Christians" yet few seem to be converted. Things change for the new convert, how can a new convert have God the Holy Spirit take up residence inside of them and nothing change? How crazy is that?
2 Cor. 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
Satan loves to deceive, God is not the author of confusion. You will know for a fact if God has truly transformed you and others will take notice as well.
Here is a great verse to clarify any confusion about the topics of predestination and election:
2 Thessalonians: 2. 13. But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
We are chosen through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth. Our part is to exercise our free will and believe with all our heart; not mere lip service.
"Good people" don't get to Heaven, only saved ones do. Are you saved from your sins by true faith in Jesus Christ?
